General FAQ's for LG & WSI Courses
Ques: I cannot make all the dates listed for the course. Is it ok to switch dates with one of the other courses being offerred?
Ans: We do not allow switching dates/times for the course. If scheduling will be an issue for you, it is recommended you
look at our other course dates.
Ques: I will be late or need to leave early for one or more days of the course. Is this OK?
Ans: Unfortunately we do not make accommodations for anyone unable to attend the hours set aside for the course.

Ques: What is your refund policy?
Ans: If a candidate is unsuccessful with the pretest or cancels within 24hr of the 1st day of the course, the course fee will
be returned however the $100 non-refundable fee is forfeited. Once the course begins, there are no refunds.
Ques: What if I am unable to to pass the pretest? Can I still participate in the course?
Ans: The American Red Cross requires each participant successfully pass the pretest in order to continue with the course.
If a candidate cannot pass the pretest, they cannot continue with the course.
Ques: What supplies should I bring to class?
Ans: In addition to bathing suit - Males: basic swimsuit/boardshorts. Swim-teamers may wear jammers.
Females: a one piece, conservative suit is allowed.
A lot of energy is used throughout the course, bringing numerous snacks, food and drink is highly encouraged.
Once the course begins, no one is allowed to leave the building and no food is allowed to be ordered in or
Paper, pens/pencils are required.
Extra towels, extra clothes are recommended.
Ques: Upon arrival to the facility/pool, where do I go?
Ans: Please walk onto the pool deck and sit on one of the white bins. An instructor will meet you and escort you to the
classroom for registration verification and instruction prior to the pretest.
Remember! Bring your ID to the first day of class. Acceptable forms of ID: Drivers License, Military ID or Passport.
School ID's are not allowed.
Ques: What can I expect on the 1st day of the course?
Ans: After your registration is verified in the classroom, we will go to the pool deck and conduct the pretest. Those that are
successful will change into their clothes and go to the classroom to begin the lecture aspect of the course. Those that
are unsuccessful will be released from the course.
Ques: What happens during the lifeguard course :
Ans: A variety of lifeguarding skills will be taught including water rescues, CPR/AED, 1st Aid & Blood Borne Pathogens.
This is an intense course with long hours. Each candidate should be mentally and physically prepared for this course
and well rested.
Candidates are evaluated on the skills taught including their ability to demonstrate a professional, respectful
attitude and maintain safety for themselves and others throughout the course. Any candidate not demonstrating
these attributes toward instructors or fellow candidates may be dismissed from the course. This course is designed
to teach the skills necessary to become a lifeguard as well as expectations when working with other first responders
including Paramedics, Fire Dept, Police Dept.
Ques: How else are lifeguard candidates skills evaluated?
Ans: The American Red Cross provides instructors with specific skills candidate's must pass as well as scoring 80% or
better on two (2) written, multiple choice exams.
Ques: What can I expect at the completion of the course?
Ans: Upon successful completion of the course, candidates should expect to receive their certifications within 10 days of
the course end date. Certificates will be emailed using the candidates email address provided on the first day of
Ques: What certifications will lifeguard candidates receive?
Ans: Candidates successfully completing the course will receive the following certifications, each good for two (2) yrs:
Lifeguarding, CPR/AED for Lifeguards, First Aid. Blood Borne Pathogens certification is good for one (1) yr.
Ques: I wear contacts. Is it OK to wear them during the class?
Ans: It is recommended that participants wear glasses during the course. No accommodations will be made for
candidates choosing to wear contacts.
Ques: I want to wear goggles so I can see underwater.
Ans: Goggles are only allowed during the 300 yd aspect of the Lifeguard, Lifeguard Instructor or the WSI pretest.
Practicing w/o goggles is imperative as working lifeguards do not have time to put goggles on when
entering the water to save a life.
Ques: What is the difference between a Full course and a Blended Learning course?
Ans: A Full course is instructor led. This means the course is taught with an instructor standing in front of the classroom
providing the course information. A Blended Learning course provides the same information as the Full course
however the course content is completed online and prior to the course start date. Your instructor will determine
which option will be offered and this will be noted in the course offering listed on this website.
Ques: How do I register?
Ans: Completion of the registration form (located on the LG and WSI pages on this site) plus full payment (cash/check)
must be received for a candidate to be registered in the course. First come, first reserved! Mail payment to:

Ques: I want to get into your course but it's full! What can I do?
Ans: Once a course is full, additional registrants will be contacted via telephone and informed of the situation.
It is recommended the candidate arrive on the start date, ready to swim. Overflow candidates will wait on the pool
deck while the previously registered candidates conduct their pretest. In the event a previously registered
candidate is unsuccessful during the pretest, the overflow candidate will be instructed to enter the water and
begin the pretest. Not all overflow candidates will be allowed to take the pretest - overflow is treated as all
of our courses, first registered, first to take the pretest. Overflow candidates only enter the water if previously registered
candidates are unsuccessful with their pretest.
